Building and renovation
Your working radius, stated so you stop losing mornings.
Half an hour of driving changes the price of a job. Saying how far you go prevents visits you were never going to accept.
The website and the Google profile declare the area the company genuinely works in, with a page of its own for each relevant area, so that the enquiries arriving come from places it can reach.

The mileage nobody charges for
In a renovation, the crew’s daily travel is a cost that almost never gets invoiced in full. A job forty minutes away can be profitable and one an hour away no longer is. And yet hardly any building company’s website says how far it goes, so enquiries arrive from everywhere and get answered one by one only to end in a no.
Declaring the area, on Google too
Many building companies have no premises open to the public, and for those cases Google allows declaring a service area instead of a visiting address. Its guidelines explain it, and it is what makes you appear where you work rather than only where your yard is.
A page per area, genuinely written
If you work in three towns, three pages written for each: what jobs you have done there, how long it takes you to get there, whether you know the quirks of the old buildings in the centre or the new flats on the outskirts. What does not work is a cloned page with the town name swapped: Google spots it and so does the reader.
And the minimum, if you have one
Many companies do not take jobs below a certain size, and not saying so generates wasted visits. Putting it on the site, tactfully, saves everybody time: «we take renovations from X upwards» is a sentence appreciated more than you would think.

Frequently asked questions
Can I have a profile with no open premises?
Yes. Google distinguishes between businesses with premises and businesses that travel; in the second case you declare a service area.
How many areas can I list?
The real ones. Declaring half a province when you work in two towns does not help and can hurt.
What if I make exceptions for a big job?
Say so: «outside this area, depending on the job». It is honest and leaves the door open.
Do area pages work?
If they are genuinely written, yes. If they are the same page with the name swapped, no.
